Drenching rain fell prior to the start
of the Glenelg and Torrens match at
Glenelg. T,here was a emaji atten
dance.
Phillips was given a trial for Torrens.
while Ashley was not required, and
Ellis wa^ unable to play owing to a
broken bone in his foot. Gates did noi
play for the seafcidei-s.
Hanley, Toms, and Gotts (roving) did
duty in the rucir £ov Glenelg, and Tor
rend were represented by Mi lip, Broae
v'rSk., and O'Grady (rcvicg).
Lloyd secured at ibe bounce and
passed to Owens. The latter had a loug
shot, but the bat.- feli sfcort, and Daviess
cleared. Owens, however, again ob
tained possession, and kicked the first
goal.
Playing well the seasiders again
rushed forward arid Conlon kicked

started off goalward and Adams at
tempted to score, but Hine cleared.
McCarthy returned the ball and Torrens
managed a single.

Assisted by the wind, Glenelg had
secured a 25-points lead at the end of
The first quarter. On the change over
Torrens dashed forward, and Adams
passed to Karney, who raised one 'flag..
Continuing the attack, the Torres men
kept the ball in the danger zone. Fleet
forwarded, and Karney goaled from a
penalty kick. Torpy helped to put
Glenelg on the offensive, and transferred
to Hoft, who sent to Alurphy. The
latter scored a single. But the visitorp
broke away again. Scrambling play
close un resulted in Karney being; «£v«9V
a free, and he had no difficulty in scor
ing full points. Adams had a place
shot, but kicked poorly, and Fleet failed
from in ankle. A snap shot by Mi
near, however, found the main open
ing.
Oliver started the .Bay men of? at
last, and Hoft, running in, scored a
beautiful goal. Owens was fouled near
the goal mouth, and he had no diffi
culty in scoring liis second goaL
Torrens, ' however, again worked the
ball forward, and Minear retaliated
with a goal. The seasiders again ap
peared dangerous, but Daviess- saved the
situation.
O'Grady, scouting, passed the ball on
to Marvel, and a behind, resulted. The
Torrens men continued to attack, but
the Glenelg backmen were defending
well. The tigers temporarily assumed
control, and Bradley scored the pos
sible. With the ball at the other end,
Torrens looked like scoring, but Perry
saved.
The visitors returned to the attack,
and Phillips snapped a 'foal.

At the opening of the third quarter
Glenelg set out to increase their lead.
Murphy had a long shot, but the visi
tors cleared. Playing carefully, they
worked the ball along the wing. Fleet
forwarded, and a point was scored.
Hoft marked . brilliantly and passed to
Gotts. Torrens' back men were too
strong, and Marvel scored. Owens later
rushed a behind.
Although the wind had died down the
play deteriorated. Neither side was show
ing much form. For a moment Torrens
wjth good handball flashed out, and they,
rushed goalwards. Marvel, however, only
hoisted, one flag. .
Quinn was causing much amusement by
continually slipping on the wet turf and
falling. Hanlev took a fine mark in the
back line and kicked to Hoft, who also
shone in the air. ; Oliver passed excel
lently to Owens, and the champion goal
sneak, with a fine kick, raised both flags.1
Gotts secured and again passed to
Owens,' who from a long way out scored
a. behind. Torrens again got a. run, and
Fleet retaliated with a six-pointer. Thej

Torrens set out with a dash at the be
ginning of the final term, and O'Grady
kicked a fine goal. Adams, - who had re
ceived a kick on the jaw and had /had
several stitch^es inserted, returned to the
field. Both teams were battling hard, the
scores being even.
Broderick received a free, and with a
good kick placed Torrens iu the lead by
a point for the first time during tlie
match. Still attacking, Torrens kept the
ball- in the danger zone, and Blarney with
a beautiful snap shot scored full points.
Soon afterwards he hit the post with
another snap. Perry started Glenelg on
the- offensive, and Owens was 'riven a
chance, but Torrens cleared and quickly
transferred to the other end.
Karney had a shot from an acute angle
and placed his fourth goal on the board.
Gotts and O'Grady, the opposing rpvera^
