TUB REGATTA.
Tho Regatta to nulc'-iiata tho Eighty-Sixth Anniversary o:
. tho foundation of the colony, took placo yesterday ¡ ? hut lo
- eousoiiuence of the counter-tnii-actions at tho Albert Ground
thara Is no wondcrlt surpassed In dullness any former regatta
that has hoon held to eolcbruto thc natal day of tho colony, tl
appears fromXho nature of some of our aquatio gathering*-,
that they occur too frequently. Tho regattas lu a year, it ic
very clear, aro too many for l'ort Jackson. Any one appears
to oporuto against the other to so material an oxtont that it
would appear to l>e far hotter If tho rowing and sailing enthu-
siasts wotildamalgauiuto and holdone grund annual gathering,
instead of beating up donations foi* such shams as tho publia
. aro now accustomed to witness. Tho old Anniversary Com-
mittee declined to go on with tho event this year, und tho
present gentlemen who form tho committee have lieca
materially aided in their efforts by a good surplus from last
year. Tho Flagship of tho day was tho Government steamer
Thetis, which was moored on tho Farm Covo sido of Fart
' Sf acquurle, and there wi re lussembled on board a few spoetatorj,
und the efforts of tho Arl illery band served tc, while away tho
tediousness of tho day. As tho day advanced, several hun-
dreds of lxioplo assembled on thoshora in front of Fort Mao
qtiaric, but few pleasure bouts wore afloat, as the continuous
rain of tile carly morning had no doubt prevented many
from getting atlout. Aud thc vlolont nature of thc southarly
t wind which came - up about 1U.ÏM) a.ni., drove tho clouds
awny, but tho high southerly wind continued all dov. Mr.
Q. Dololtto uctcd us starter, and was fortunato in getting tho
