week ! Two negro men on Christmas Evo night ;

wards. Frank Jordnn was shot in tho bend and
neck nt Hnmpshiro, Maury County, Inst Wednesday,
by Flotchor Furris, nnd died tho noxt day. At
Farris's preliminary exnmination, held nt Hnmp
ehiro, before Justices M'Konnon and Scribner, the
following facts wcro mudo manifest :-In tho
summer of 18G8, Frank Jordon, together with other
desporato mon, called at tho dwclling-houso of
Furris, in tho night time, nnd told him to como out-
doors, an ho wnntcd to kill him. . Farris saved his
lifo by humbly begging for it. On tho next
day Jordnn, with tho samo satellites, wont
armed (Frank with it two-pound weight in each
pockot) to tho storo-honso oi said Furris, in Hamp-
shire, took therefrom thrco chairs nnd brolto them,
toro Ibo goods from tho BholvoB, ripped up bolts of
calico, &o. Ho hud ninny difficulties with rolativcs
of Flotchor Farris, nnd after ouch ono, would go nnd
ask him (Flotchor) whothur or not ho " took it up."
On thoso occasions, Fnrris often told Jordan to keep
uwny from lum, mid that though ho did not fear, ho
did not want a difficulty with him. It was stated nt
tho trial by two of tho best citizens ol'thnt county
thnt Jordon was often heard to say, sinco Isis trial in
tho Circuit Court for tho murder of a negro man,
that Farris lind sworn his (Jordan's) lifo nwny, and
that ho intended to kill him and send him to-.

recognized Jordan's whiskers on tho night of tho
