INTERESTED SOLDIERS.
Among the troops on the recently re
turned transport Somali, were several tight
horsemen for the eastern States. During
their stay in quarantine one of the number
saw in The Register a review of 'Tie
Desert Trail,' a book just piAKshed by Dr.
C. Duguid, M.A., writing under the name
of 'Scotty's Brother,' giving an account1
of the doings of the light horse in Sinai
and Palestine. When shore leave was
granted on Tuesday morning, the returning
soldier, with several of his comrades (most
of whom had gone away with the original
regiments) obtained copies of the book.
They were delighted at recognising photo
graphs of men and places .which had been
familiar to them during the Ia6t four years.
Two of the soldiers had fought edde by side
with 'Scotty' on Gallipoh and in Sinai,
and one of them recognised his own handi
work in the photograph of 'Scotty,'
which is the frontispiece of '*The Desert
Trail.' Speaking of the picture 'Two Ori
ginals,' one of the troopers saiki that he had
left in Tripoli the horse that lie had led on
to the transport at Port Melbourne early
in 1915, and that it had been 'on active ser
vice' ever since. lAter in the day the sol
diers met Dr. Duguid and exchanged inte
resting reminiscences.
