POLICE.
' ADELAIDE: Wednesday, October 24.
[Before Messrs. T. B. Bright, S.M., and the Hon.
J. Cowan, M.L.C']
Arthur Phillips, a soldier, admitted having
used indecent language in Rundle street on Tues
day, and was fined £2, with 10/ costs.
Archibald James Hill,- another soldier, denied
having hinered Constable Healey in the execution
of his duty in Rundle street on Tuesday evening.
The coustable stated that when he arrested Phil-
lips, defendant interfered with him. Witness
was not in uniform. Defendant, on oath, said
he caught Phillips by the coat and asked what
he had done. He was then arrested. Healey
did not «ay he was a police officer. Phillips
gave evidence. A fine of £2. vwth 13/ costs,
was imposed. .
John Noonan, a middle-aged man, was charged
witl'. having had insufficient lawful means of sup
port .at Adelaide on October 23. Superinten
dent Priest prosecuted. Plainclothes Constable
P. McPhenon said he knew accused. He had
seen him loitering near to the .Windsor ekstle
Hotel. Accused told witness that he hod not
worked for a long time,, because h* was too
weak to do any Uboor. It cost him about 2/ a
week to live. He slept in a stable. Evidence
was also given by Constable Queale. The in
formation was dismissed. The Bench advised
defendant to go and get work.
