Heavy Aerial Fighting.
LONDON, October 23.
Gen. Haig, describing the aerial opera-
tions, stated at midnight.— Fine weather
resulted in an improvement of the visibility
on Sunday, and much artillery observation
work was performed. Four tons of bombs
were dropped on aerodromes near to
Courtrai and Roulers, and on a big gun
position near to Douai. Three tons of
bombs were showered in the nighttime
on the Roulers and Lichtervelde railway
stations, where fires started; and also on
the Courtrai and Roulers aerodromes. A
pilot reached on aerodrome just as the
enemy's night bombing machines were
leaving. He dropped bombs among them.
Heavy air fighting has occurred, chiefly
well over the enemy line. Thirteen Ger-
man machines have been brought down,
and three driven down. Eight of our
'planes are missing, including one night
bombing 'plane.
