Lost in the Air.
LONDON, -October 22.
Mr. G. H. Ferris, the British correspon
dent with .the French armies, reports that
the crews of the euper-Zeppelins L19 and
L50, confirm the statement that they took
part in a single expedition 'against England.
The- fleet, numbering 12, left three ports
separately.. When they reached England
the Zeppelins were bothered by antiair
craft guns and searchlights, so they quickly
dropped their bombs and rose to a height
of three miles. Here' they were caught in
a. strong north-westerly wind, and became
lost. The cold was extreme. The motor
engines froze, and the men were frostbit
ten.- The aUternators would not 'work., and
it was impossible for the crews to. take
their bearings. The captain of one of the
airships at dawn thought he was over Hol
land, or Westphalia; and then he recog
nised that he was above French soil.
