; LUTHERAN SCHOOLS.
From 'Australian':— 'Mr. O. J. A.
Hubner wants -to know -what he has done,
and what the Lutheran schools have done,
that Germans should be deprived of them.
Nobody wants to deprive them of their
schools; but we Britons certainly object
to ibhem teaching in the German language.
If the language of our country is riot Rood
enough for them, let them get out of it,
and the sooner the better. We neither
want to hear the enemies' language nor to
follow their customs. It is all nonsense
for Mr. Hubner to talk of being persecu
ted. If the Germans want to live in
peace here and be the same as we are, -they
must cease talking and teaching the Ger
man language, or they will deserve to be
persecuted. The population of my dis
trict is mostly composed of people wic&
German names, and I quite agree with
Mr. Hubner that they make good, hard
working 6ettlers. I have many^ friends
among them, but since the war it is im
possible for me to visit them in their
homes, as it makes my blood boil to hear
diem continually yapping in German. They
don't seem to know they are giving offence.
How can they expect their children to
grow up loyal subjects?'
