FOALS OIVTHE SEASON.
[By aiostyn.] v
HLLL6EA AND NETLEY.
The importance of breeding -military
horses ia gradually finding favour in high
places, and the thoroughbred is last com
ing into his own. Tie breeders through
out the State trill view with satisfaction
the changed conditiona. Mr. W.
Schlink, of HiUsea stud, on the west
coast, is getting together a rather for
midable stud. Thertf is no reason why
Green Seal should not sire smart horses.
He was all quality, and a record breaker
in America. He was just about done when
he reached these shores, but quickly be
came acclimatized, .and went on winning
races. Mr. ScWink speaks highly of tli-
ebock by the Yankee, and owners of mares
on the west coast are fortunate in having
at their disposal such a well-bred and
good-looking horse. The Maltster horse
is al»o used, and fe* from that good mare
Cradle. The Hillsea list reads: —

— Netley.—
3fc\ J. Dunne has done well at Netley
with Maltster's full brother Maelgwyn,
and the pity of it is that more sportsmen
have not been found ready to try the
good-looking and splendid-legged horses
raised at this station. Wyndarra, by car
rying all before him in the autumn, finish
ing up with the Great Eastern Steeple
chase, showed the versatility of the Mael
gwyns. This season Mr. Dunne has bred
a hatf-sister to those useful stayers Kon
gorong and Phormio, and Hopwood is
sure to be on the lookout for this filly in
years to come. Unfortunately Netley, the
dam of Rantyga, missed, and as a matter
of fact, this year Mr. Dunne did not
reach anything like his usual percentage
with his foals. His list reads:—
