WALLAROO'S JUBILEE.
CELEBRATION MOOTED,
On July 24 Wallaroo will .have be**
50 years a corporate town, and a meeting,
convened by the Mayor (Dr. W. H. Har
bison) was held on Thursday evening to
discuss arrangements to celebrate the
event. The Mayor presided, and asked
those present to formulate a scheme _or
offer suggestions; and to unite in- making
the celebration a' success.
Mr. W. F. Errington (ex-Mayor)
thought it would be well to bold the cele
brations in. August, and have a 'bad;
to Wallaroo' movement, with excursion
fares on the railways.
Mr. Thomas John said if the jubilee
were to be celebrated, it should be .done
well. With a population such aa they
bad, and the possibility of important
developments, many would .welcome the
celebrations, and others absent, but still
interested, would gladly return and take
part.
Mr. Henry May doubted if an August
celebration would give sufficient time for
preparation.
Mrs. H. May suggested that if a one
day programme were decided on, the chil
dren should have a function, and a social
and dance to be held in the evening.
Mr. P. M. Sullivan suggested greater
publicity for the movement by personal
canvass and other means. He moved
the adjournment of the meeting until
Monday, and that those present be a
committee tocanvam the town.
The resolution was carried unanimously.
