CRICKET
THE FORTHCOMING TESTS
Larwood and Bradman as Tromp
Cards .
LONDON, Saturday.
Expressing high hopes that Larwood
would be available for the 1934 Tests,
A. W. Carr, writing in the "Sketch,"
says that the fight for the Ashes will
centre on him and Bradman, and that
the success of either may decide the
issue.
He picks the following for the first
Test: Sutcliffe, Walters, Hammond,
Leyland. Jardine (captain). Ames,
James langridge. Voce, Robins. Lar
' wood and Bowes; 12th man. Verity.
I Carr considers that Voce's inclusion is
entirely dependent on Larwood's fit
I ness; if Larwood is not available, how-
ever. Clark and Allen should replace
I them, as Voce is a hundred "per cent,
more effective when Larwood is play-
ing. All of the first eight in the above
team exceeded the thousand runs last
! season. Walters ls preferable, he
says, to Bakewell as a partner for
1 Sutcliffe because he is a sounder play
I er, while Langridge, who proved the
' best all-rounder of the year, displaces
Wyatt. Bowes, the best new-ball bow-
ler in England, is included as third
fast bowler, while Robins, the googly,
who is a brilliant field and useful bat,
cannot be improved upon.
