WITH THE RIFLK.
The National Rifle Association matches
were begun at the Port Adelaide rifio
ranges on Saturday. The meeting (fives
every promise of proving exceptionally in
terest.ng. Saturday's proceedings began
with the series of matches for junior rifle
men. In the first of these, at 200 and 300
yards, R K. Raster, of East Torrens, won
with a score of 63, and in the second, at
COO yards. W. II. Vavvser, of Petersburg,
was top, with 48 out of a posshle 50. T-co
other similar scores were registered. The
Lyster, a teams matdi, included for
the encouragement of inexperienced shots,
was won easily by the Petersburg team.
Some fine scoring wan accomplished by W.
H. Frith, of the leading team, who missed
the maximum at tlie two ranges by only
one point. The Tennyson Cup, fired ur.d-;r
battle service conditions, was captur_-i by
C Company, 10th. Regiment, and the Simp
son Trophy, fired at a disappearing target,
by Lieut. J. R. Rosie, of Jamestown. The
matches set down for to-day are the
Teams', Hqiwell, and Wallack, in addition
to the continuous competition's, which will
be available to riflemen throughout the
meeting. Among the visitors on the range
on Saturday were Mjr.-Gen. Hoad, the
State Commandant (CoL Lee), and Co]
Wallaek.
