HELENA VALE RACES
MURAGE WINS
Tom Tem Surprises-A Sen-
sational Dividend
" Though the weather was dull and
threatening, a very large crowd as-
sembled at Helena Vale yesterday
afternoon, .when pome" most interest-
ing racing was witnessed. ' Fields
were large for. the .most part, no "less
than 25 starting in ¿he last race. Book-
makers had a good day, as not one
favorite scored. Much -interest cen-
tred in the mile and a quarter race,
which .resolved itself into a struggle
between the three best-backed horses
in the even*. Old-Fop. so popular
with punters, was not equal to beat-
ing Murc-se or Maori Lad. though he
was troublesome right to the half-dis-
tance. A sensational dividend was
declared - in the Second-Class Plate,
Coilhurst, who finished third, return-
ing his solitary backer £73/17/ for
his half-sovereign. The owners of all
the horses which started in "the Bfrst=
Class Plate were fined £2 for being
late at the post with their charges.
