ROTTNEST AS A HEALTH AND
PLEASURE RESORT.
Now . that the holiday season ls
approaching it is interesting to note
that the undoobted claims of Rott-
nest as a resort for health and plea-
sure are being brought more within
the practical reach of our citizens. It
is understood that the work of fur-
nishing the Government Accommoda-
tion House is proceeding apace, and
that the House will be open to re-
ceive guests on Saturday, December
23, thus making provision for some
seventy people to be housed. As an
evidence of the response made by the
public to the facilities offered, it may
be mentioned that the four furnished
cottages included in the scheme were
applied for more than ten-fold, and
have been let up to the end of March
next. The fifty departmental camps
are all let for the Christmas holi-
days, and arrangements have been
made to allow persons owning their
own camps to erect them in the
camping reserve, on the payment of
a small charge to cover water, fuel
and sanitary services. The s.s.
"Westralian" commenced the Rott-
nest service on Saturday, the 9 th
inst. She will leave Barrack-street
Jetty, Perth, on Saturdays and Wed-
nesdays at 8 a.m. returning from
Rottnest about noon, and will also
leave Rottnest on Mondays at ? a.m.
A retail provision store, tea and re-
freshment rooms are being opened,
thus avoiding the necessity for tak-
ing provisions from the mainland.
