CURRENT POLITICS.
To the Editor.
Sir— I am nroch surprised to see it
stated that Sir Jenkin Coles has after all
decided to take the Speaker's Chair again
if he can get it, in spite of the desire ex
pressed bv all but one of his party %tuat he
shonid not help the Socialists by doing so.
As one of his oldest friends I advise till
parts of the Liberal side in the Assembly
to decline to have anything to do with tlie
choice of a Speaker, because it would be
hollow hypocrisy to pretend that Sir Jpn
kin would take the Chair again with, tba
approval of more than the barest majority
cf the HoiK«i It is. not that they object
to his ability or fo his right to tne Chair
ccder ordinary conditions, bat they think
fce- should make a sacrifice at present iu
the interests of liberalism.
I am. Sir, it, 'WARE CHAIR.
