HON. J. COWAN, M.L.C. (Southern).
The Hon. John Cowan, M.L.C., who was
born on November 22, 1866, is the third
son of the late Thomas Cowan, who repre-
sented the District of Yatala in 1875, and
is a nephew of the late James Cowan, who
also represented Yatala. Mr. Cowan has
been engaged in agricultural and pastoral
pursuits all his life. He has resided on
Glen Lossie Station, near Murray Bridge,
for the past 22 years. He has taken a
none Help
keen interest in the River Murray question,
and was instrumental in arranging two
large deputations to the Government on the
subject. Mr. Cowan has taken a great in-
terest in the welfare of Murray Bridge, and
has acted as Chairman of the Mobilong
Council for the last 15 years, and is Presi-
dent of the Institute, President of the Agri-
cultural Society, and Chairman of the Board
of Advice. His experience on the land
should make him a capable representative
of the Southern District.
