CABLEGRAMS.
THE AMERICA CUP.
LIPTON LEFT LAMENTING.
Blames British Boat Builders.
LONDON. SATURDAY.
Sir Thomas Lipton was interviewed in
New York to-day with regard to his failure
to capture the America Cup. The tea-and-
bacon Baronet expressed himself as follows :
" When Britain can produce a boat-builder
like Herrishoff, I shall re-challenge for the
big trophy, but not until then. All the
brains in boat-building are on this side of
the Atlantic. Herrishoff, in my opinion, is
a regular wizard. The Reliance is the best
boat I have ever seen and won the match on
her merits. I am a most disappointed
man."
Replying to a further question about the
Shamrock's smaller sail-area, Sir Thomas
remarked that all he could say was, that he
had entrusted everything associated with
the construction and design of the Sham-
rock to the best talent available in England.
