ADVERTISING THE STATE.
Some time ago the Commissioner of
Crown Lands (Hon. F. W. Young) ar
ranged for a series' of cinematograph pic
tures to be taken illustrative of the physi
cal features, conditions ot me, beauty
spots, productions', arts, and industries of
Sonth Australia. These were dispatched
to the old countries of the world, to be
exhibited as an inducement to persons to
come to South Australia. Fresh films have
been forwarded at intervals, and two others
bave been obtained which .should prove de
cidedly interesting and instructive to the
people in England. One of these deals
with pastoral affairs in the Central State,
and gives splendid examples of the quality
and guantity of the northern sheep. The
headings must arrest attention. The spec
tators will be able to read terse sentences
giving the good points of the merinos, and
will be told that many thousands of sheep
are shorn at individual stations. - One
section of the film was taken at Lake Dis
mal, near to Broken Hill. . 'It depicts the
wool-yielding animals feeding in the outer
areas. The remainder were secured at Hill
River, and illustrate the whole process of
shearing, including mustering, yarding,
drafting, shearing, by machine and hand,
wool classing and wool packing. Aa a
fitting conclusion the last is a view of one
of the large wool stores at Port Adelaide.
Mr. Young considers that this gallery of
pictures is the finest yet sent away. An
other film gives a capital rfcetch of the
parade of the cadets in Sing William
street. The pictures were screened in the
Adelaide Town Hall on Thursday af ter-
aoon for the Minister's inspection.
