Provincial Towns Provisions.
MELBOURNE. Monday.
Since the 'A' class broadcasting sta
tions in Victoria and New South Wales
have been amalgamated to form a single

1,' the Postmaster-General's Department
to provide for provincial stations. The
Deputy Director of Postal Services (Mr.
G. G. Haldane) said to-day that a line
was now availnble between Melbourne and
Ballarat for broadcasting purposes, and
that 3LO had been advised .of this and
had been rsked to. establish a relay station
in the Ballarat district so that the persons
who did not desire to buy an expensive
valve .set could take advantage, of the
broadcasting, services. The regular pro
grammes of 3LO. Melbourne, could be re
broadcast on another wavelength from this

The position in New South Wales is
complicated by the fact. that no pei-manerit
trunklinc channel will be , available for
the exclusive use of the broadcasting sta
tion until the .'end of the year. It has
been sujgeated to 2FC however, that a
separate station should be built in the
Newcastle-Maitlaud district from which
local news, phonograph records, and other
items of interest could be broadcast for
the benefit of listeners in this thickly
