His Excellency the Governor and Lady

Royal on Monday evening.
Sr. demons (T.), who had been paying
n flying visit to Adelaide, ieft the city
by the Melbourne express on Monday after
noon, in company with the local representa
tives of the Federal Parliament.
The Grand Secretary of the 1.0.0 J. (Mr.
A. Lcane), who was through illness unable
lo take any part in the festivities of that
wder last week, is now on the road to re
covery. At the recent triennial session, of
the Grand Lodge a resolution of
sympathy with the officer was carried.
This was conveyed to Mr. Leane by the Act
ing Grand Sire (Mr. G. Coutts) and the
Grand Secretary (Mr. J. C. Smith).
A telegram was received in Adelaide on
Monday stating that 3lt. F. H. Pollock,
sole lessee of the Theatre* Royal, who was
seized with an apoplectic fit at the Princess
Theatre, Melbourne on Saturday night,
was out of danger.
Mrs. Hornabrook, an old and esteemed
colonist, died at East terrace, Adelaide, on
Monday evening; at the advanced age of
90 years. The deceased lady has left one
son (Mr. J. A. Hornabrook) and two daugh
ters (Mrs. Fisher and Lady Bray). The
Rev. C. S. Hornabrook, rector of St. Paul's,
Port Adelaide, is a grandson.
Mr. C. H. L. Catchlove, A.I.A. (Lond.),
of the A.M.P. Society, left by the Arcadia
on Monday to take up a position in the
actuarial department of the 'head office,
Sydney. At a social gathering last week
lie was made the recipient of a souvenir
from the staff of the society as a memento
of their esteem.
The services of Mr. G. Randall, the
Queensland Immigration Lecturer in Eng
land, will be dispensed with at- the close o£
his present engagement, which expires in.
September next, as free immigration to that
state has been abolished.
The ceremony of the enthronement of
Bishop Pain as Bishop of Gippsland hag
been definitely arranged to take place at Sfc,
Paul's Church, Sale, on July 10.
The will of «the late Mr. Robert Clark, of
Ballarat, newspaper proprietor, has been
lodged in Melbourne for probate. The es
tate is valued at,.£28,O0O. Tbe will of tha
late Mr. William Hicks, of Echuca, farmer,
lias also been lodged for probate. Tho
value of tbe estate is eet down at £16,000.
The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly
of Victoria has received the resignation of
Mr, Jacob Fotheringbam as member foi;
Footscray in the Legislative Assembly.

The deceased arrived in South Aus
tralia in the year 1849. He was one o£
the first to select land in the Murtoa dia«
trict.
At the annual meeting of the Melbourne
Chamber of Commerce on Monday a re«
solution was carried deploring the resigna
tion of Lord Hopetoun as a great loss ta
the community.
