AUSTRALIAN TELEGRAMS.
PERTH. October 14.
Tlie gold exported per mail steamer China for
London was 50,000 sovs., gold bullion valued £202.
BROKEN HILL, October 14.
At the South Blocks very fair results arc beins
ODiaineu Irom development work on Block 0. The
south drive from the 100 ft. of No. 2 shaft was
advanced 7 ft. for the week, making 197 ft. in all.
The face is still somewhat mixed, but is looking
m.ich bettor than it did the previous week, assays
giving 17.5 per cent, lead and 3 oz. silver. Tl*s
north drive from the 2U0 rt. measures 10 ft., and
has entered a full face of massive sulphides, as
says givin? 22.5 per cent. lead and 3.5 oz silver.
At the 100 level of No. 3 shaft, the north drive
Was lengthened 7 ft., making 55 ft., the face and
sides being full of clean sulphides, late assays
giving 27 per cent, lead and 5 oz. silver. Ano
ther 100 ft. about has yet to be driven before the
northern boundary is reached. It is understood the
policy of the directors is to thoroughly open up
this eastern section of Block 0, and then future
operations frill be ruled by the lead market. The
body at the 100 ft. has been opened so far from
end to end over 477 ft.
Block 14 mill, working two shifts daily las1
week, less 16 hours stoppages, treated 917 tons
crude sulphides, which produced 332 tons concen
trates awl slimes of good silver and lead contents.
Tlie shipments to Port Adelaide for the week
aggregated 651 tons, and, comprised 261 tona crude
oxidized ores, ami 390 tons mill products. The
productive stopes are readily responding to re
quirements, and the ore mined remains of fair
average value. Progressive work is now confined
to three points of operation on the eastern body
north of the main shaft. In the far north section,
at the 200 ft., the south drive, off the end of the
crosscut, measures 79 ft., the face being full of
mixed oxidized ores. At the 300 ft. the east cros*
cut, off the end of the north-east drive, has reach
ed 19 ft., and at the 400 ft. the east crosscut, o2
the north-cast drive, measures 16 ft., both faces
carrying only country rock.
The British central development in Howell's ob
lique northern crosscut, at the 500 ft., continues to
Jpen most satisfactorily, and although the body
has been cut into nearly 50 ft. there arc no signs
whatever of the hanging wall. When this crosscut
had reached 211 ft. from the plat a good deal of de
composed rock made its appearance, but this
quickly cut out, and the present face is full of
massive bright sulphides, with the usual inflow
af water making from it. Elsewhere there is no
change for the better in progressive work.
Ifowell's COO ft. northerly drive has been lengthen
ed to 76 ft. from the plat, the end remaining in
°a?y working country rock, and at the 400 ft.
ihe winze from the central stopc in deepened to
15 ft, the bottom, which is making water in
rmantity, containing only .valueless lode material,
fa Blackwood section, at the COO level, the no'
thnrn drive, which has reached 203 ft., still car
ries country rock only. At the 600 ft. when tlie
north drive had been lengthened to 2!1 ft. from
th-- main west crosscut, it was stopped, and a
ilrivc has been started in a north-easterly direc
tion, at a point aliout 100 ft. back from the face.
Tli-; diamond drill, which Was exploring the
irround westward from this drive was Etoppcd at
70 ft., nothing of any value being encountered.
Hie drill is now borinsr from the end of this north
Jrive, and althoueli 60 ft. has been reached the
core shows only valueless stuff.
