ENOUGH COAL UNLOADED FOR WEEK-END
Cuts Must
Go On For
Few Days
GANTRYMEN unloaded 3,100 tons of coal
from the collier Ocean Pride at Osborne
today before they ceased work at 11.50 a.m
for the week-end break. This enabled elec
tricity, gas, and railway authorities all to re
ceive more coal than they had asked for, said
the gantries superintendent (Mr. Veitch).
But because of uncertainty over the arrival time ot
future supplies, domestic gas and electricity restrictions
must remain in force for a few more days so that there
can be a full resumption of industry on Monday.
Attendances at races and football this after
noon were little affected by the tram and trolly bus
stoppage. Twenty thousand people went to Mor
phettville and 9,000 to the main football match at
LJnley. Total football attendances, round 26,000.
tvere about normal.
