Hospital Tests
Are Made On
Pearl Divers
BROOME, Tues.-The arrival
early this morning of the first
party of pearl divers from Japan
has caused no apparent excite
ment in the town.
Lookidg weary after their long
air trip, they were met at the
airport by representativies of the
pearling companies.
After sleeping and eating they
were taken this afternoon to the
Broome Hospital for X-ray and
eye tests.
Many of them can read letters
but do not speak English.
Delay For Two
Airmen
SYDNEY, Mon.-Two Aus
tralian jet pilots who returned
to Sydney from Korea tonight
claimed that they were delayed
in getting home on leave be
cause they had to give up seats
to Japanese pearl divers.
The two men said that they
were originally scheduled to
leave Iwokuni last Friday but
their. bookings were cancelled
shortly before the plane's de
parture time.
The men are Pilot Officer Ken
Murray (27), of Wentworth
ville, who has flown 333 mis
sions in Korea, and Pilot Offi
cer Jack Slater (26), of Con
cord, 133 missions.
P/O. Murray said at Mascot
that the plane in which they
were originally scheduled to
leave took off for Australia with
13 Japanese pearl divers on
board.
