Associated Northern.— Week, October 26:— No.
7 Level— Cutting lode in S.E. drive, or what have
previously called xcut; 140 ft S.E. from W. xcut
cut wall rock of lenze. This has flat dip of 20 deg.
to S., and noft strata about a foot thick carryint;
water. Cutting wall made this a drive. Ran on
it continually without values up to ICO ft., when
just as suddenly as at No. 6 level we ran in one
round of shots up to values of 10 oz. ore, showing
brilliant splashes of telluride. ore. Have since
driven en ore 25 ft. in 8 to 10 oz. ore, and still
in sight in face. Another round of 5 ft. will bring
us under winze from No. 6 level. Shall then rise
to connect with winze, which we are now 80 ft
below. Survey bIiows 160 ft. between Nos. 6 and
7 levels. Winze, which it/ sunk 80 ft. below No. 6

Of all the world's great armies none is so
numerous,, so costly, or so remarkable as
the American army of pensioners. It is an
army of 1,000,000, larger than that of Great
Britain,' Italy, Austria-Hungary, and the
Ottoman Empire combined. Its cost of
£30,000,000 last year was greater than thab
of any standing army in Europe.
