AX UNFORTUNATE MOTHER.

Mr*. Carnir, who was arrested in connec
tion with the Numurkah tragedy, w.w p'TP
fcntcfl at the Local Court on Saturday
afternoon on a rharee of wilful murder.

realized what had taken place. Ser
geant Hore. who prosecuted, briefly stated
the main facts of the case, and asked that
tbe accused should be remanded to the Mel
bourne Gaol Hospital for a period of eight
day* in order to allow oi tbe Coroner's in
que* ukinp place. Mr. C. W. Morrissy,
who appeared on behalf of Mrs. Carnie, in
timated that he had no objection to a re
mand being granted, but that h's client
should be allowed out on bail. The appli
cation for bail was refused, tbe Magistrate
remarking that it would be to the interests
of the family and the accused person her
self to be placed under such surveillance
and treatment as*would be provided by the'
gaol authorities. Accused wa* then reman
ded to the Melbourne Gaol Hospital. The
condition of the unfortunate woman is far
from Kitiafiictory. She U almost too weak
to sit up. and the shock she. must, neces
sarily have received since she realized what
had taken place is plainly indicated iu her
features.
