RED- DEAN
CALLED:
FOOLISH
CANBERRA. - T h
Prime Minister (Mr. Men.
zies) said yesterday that
he regarded the Dean of
Canterbury (Dr. Johnson)
as a singularly foolish per.
son.
THE unfortunate part about:his
present tour was that it had.
been given so much publicity.
In the House of Representa
tives, Mr. Kekwick (Lib., Tas.)
asked whether Mr. Menzies had
seen statements by the Dean
that portions of Northern Aus
tralia should be handed over to
Chinese and people like the
Japanese, and whether the Gov
ernment would take any action.
Mr. Menzies said he had read
the statement, iwhich was com
pletely in line with views which
Dr. Johnson had expressed in
1934 or 1935.
