THE NORTH
EXTON
On Sunday harvest thanksgiving
services were held in Christ Church,
Exton. Rev. C. J. Randell conducted
the afternoon service, and was organ
ist also. Mr. J. Treffry conducted the
evening service which was well at
tended with Miss Newton as organist.
The church was decorated and the
harvest gifts were forwarded to the
Salvation Army. Launceston.
HAGLEY
The May meeting of the Women's
Auxlilary of the Hagley Methodist
Church was held at the Church on
Wednesday afternoon. In the absence
of the president (Mrs. W. Chilcott),
the vice-president presided.
The same afternoon the men of the
church held a working bee in the
church grounds and the opportunity
was taken of makning a presentation to
AMrs. Cliff Heazlewood from all mem
bers of the church in appreciation of
her services as organist for a number
of years. Rev. H. Delbridge, asking
Mrs. HIeazlewood to accept the gitt,
eulogised her services to the church
and the appreciation of the members
of the church of her excellent worl.
An address was given during the
afternoon to members of the auxiliary
by Rev. R. T. White on the subject
of Inland Missions.
LONGFORD
The Coronation celebration commit
tee at Longford has arrangements well
in hand for Coronation Day. The
Longford branch of the R.S. and
S.I.L.A. will open proceedings at 11
a.m., when the usual Anzac Shield
and Cup events will be competed for
by the children of the Longford muni
cipality. At 1.45 p.m. the children
will assemble in hollow square forma
tion in front of the flagpole, and ad
dresses will be given by the Warden
(Cr. W. F. Archer) and the president
of the Longford branch f the R.S. and
S.LL.A. (MaJ-" H. J. Dumaresq). Ar
rangements have been completed for
the transport of all school children
from within the municipality. Re
freshments will be provided on the
ground for .e children, and after
noon tea will t. available. There are
570 children enrolled in the district,
and each will receive a medal.
C.W.A. BRANCH FORMED
A meeting of women to discuss the
formation of a branch of the Country
Women's Association of Tasmania was
held at Longford on Thursday. May 6.
at Mr. L. C. Thompson's omfice.
There was a good attendance, Mrs.
L. C. Thompson presided, and wel
comed the state president (Mrs. W. C.
J. Peart). Mesdames R. Grubb, F. 4H.
Barber, and Miss F. King, of Laun
ceston. Mrs. Peart, addressing the
nmeeting, gave a talk on the work of
the association. its aims and objects.
On the motion of Mrs. Patterson,
seconded by Mrs. Gibson, It was decid
ed to form a branch to be called the
Longford Coronation branch.
Mrs. W. Archer was elected presi
dent: AMrs. .. C. Thompson, secretary;
MIrs. Allen Affleck, treasurer; with all
present as the committee. The first
meeting of the blranch wvill be held at
Mr. Thompson's oflico on June 3. Mles
dames Gibson and N. L. Patterson
were elected vot:ng delegatles to con
ference to be held in Iluncebston at
the King's Hall on Mayr 27 snd :8. At
the close of the meeting Mrs. Archer
enterltained the visitors at afternoon
