NEWSTEAD SOCIETY
The Newstead Homing Society con
ducted the final race from Epping for
the Barnard Cup, presented by Mr. H.
C. Barnard, M.HE.R. The stationmas
ter liberated 16 birds, and ten were
shown at the coop. AMr. F. Leary was
timekeeper, and Messrs. E. Mickle
borough and C. Fleming were coop and
check stewards. Results:
T. and M. Heath's Polly Royal, 24.36,
1: (bred by owner); R. and J. Harris'
Honour Bright, 28.14 (bred by owner),
2; W. Boag's Highway, 29.21 (bred by
owner), 3; T. and H. Heath's Wild
Max, 29.24 (bred by owner), 4. These
were closely followed by No Luck,
30.26; Miss Radiant, 31.40; Red Sha
dow, 32.21; PoLtman, 33.3; Pooley
Bridge, 33.32H;; and Dark Ron, 45.38.
First place for points for three races
for the Barnard Cup was won by T.
and h. Heath. 7, followed by C. Flem
ing. 5; E. Mickleborough and Mrs.
Rielly, 4 each; R. and .T. Harris and T.
Fleming, 3 each: and H. Baker and
W. Boag, 2 each.
Lofts points-A. and J. Harris 34,
W. Boag 28, T. and H. Heath 23, C.
Fleming 21, T. Fleming 17, Mrs. Rielly
and E. Mickleborough 16 each, and M.
Baker 15.
The next event will be the AM. J.
Quigley Stakes, a club race from Wes
tern Junction, on December 5. The
winner will receive a trophy donated
by Mr. H. J. Quigley, a vlce-patror
of the society. -
INVERESK SOCIETY
The Inveresk Homing Society held
its annual Hobart race on Saturday.
Mr. R. MlcKlernan liberated the 11
starters. A slight following wind re
sulted in the birds putting up won
derfully good times, and a very close
finish. Messrs. H. Hardwood and J.
Brooks donated trophies for first and
second birds. Result:-T. Barker's
Fortune Teller, 2.4.15, 1; V. Bennett's
Viola, 2.4.18, 2; G. Claxton's Onaway,
2.5.27%, 3; V. Taylor's Solvit, 2.6.47,
4. All birds were bred by their owners.
The club's next race will be from Rel
bla on Saturday.
DEVONPORT CLUB
A single-out race was held from
Ulverstone over an air line of eight
and a quarter miles by the Devon
port Club at the week-end. Thirty
entries, representing eleven lofts,
were received. Fast times were re
gistered owing to a following wind.
Results:-Doran and Roberts' Some
Quality, velocity 2240yds., 1; S.
Smith's Ras Kassa, velocity 1931.33
yds., 2; H. Munting's Ugo, velocity
1896.88yds., 3; Doran and Roberts' All
Quality, velocity 1890yds., 4. The
first, third, and fourth birds were bred
by H. Munting, and the second by the
owner.
