MURRAY BRIDGE SCHOOL
INDIGNANT TOWNSMEN.
Murray Bridge, November 6.
The progress association met on Saturday
evening. Strong disapproval was expressed
of the attitude of the authorities in regard
to the increase of Murray Bridge school]
accommodation. The Hon. John Cowan said
he had interviewed the Minster of Education.
who agreed that a larger school, was
needed. He had also seen the Commissioner
of Public Works, but could not get
a satisfactory reply in regard to the building
of another school. The need of added
school Accommodation has been repeatedly
expressed at various meetings, and numerous
applications have been made to the
('Government. Dr. Macquarie, n support-
ing a motion expressing displeasure at the
I tardiness displayed by the department, said
the present school was built for 138 children.
There, were 210 on the roll, with on
average daily attendance of 200. He attributed
the outbreak of whooping-cough to
the insanitary condition of the oChooO
Should d phthisis occur the consequences
would be most serious. Several parents
were removing their children and sending
them for private tuition. The tent created
for one of the classes was useless. If source
thing were not done immediately he would
recommend the health authorities to close
the schools
