r, KING'S WHARF FACILITIES
The alterations proposed at the
King's Wharf station should make for
the convenience of the travelling pub
lic. In the original lay out the boat
expresses used the wharf rails, an ar
rangement which proved unsatisfac
tory, in that it interfered with the
general cargo operations of the port.
To avoid that a siding was put In
at the other side of the street. This
necessitated through passengers hav
ing to cross the roadway, an unplea
sant operation in bad weather. The
siding is now to be moved to along
side tile wharf sheds, on to which a
covered platform will be built. This
should do a good deal to facilitate
the transfer of passengers, luggage,
and mails, and qu.cken the despatch
of the trains. At other times the
new plan will assist the handling of
goods, both inward and outward. The
area no longer required for the rails
on the eastern side of the road will
provide ample space for the parking
of cars. In conjunction with this Im
provement it is to be hoped that action
will be taken to put the roadway in
decent order, and give vehicular traf
fic between the wharf and the city a
decent spin. Lindsay-street is In good
order, but the road adjacent to the
wharf and Charles-street are not in
keeping with the requirements of the
main route between the port and the
city.
