PETROL.
SYDNEY, Jan 9.--Petrol
rationing may end in March
and soon afterwards the price
may be reduced by at least Id.
a gallon. One oil company,
which is understood to be
Caltex Ltd., has informed the
Commonwealth Government
that it can obtain from the
Bohrein Island field in the
Persian Gulf enough petrol to
supply the Australian demand
and that payment for it would
be in Australian money. It
has sought permission to
import the petrol and the
Government's decision is ex
pected by the end of this week.
If the decision is favourable
the. first shipments would
arrive in about seven weeks.
Shortage of dollar credits has
been one big factor in con
tinuation of petrol rationing.
At present stocks are low in
Victoria and New South Wales.
