FINANCIAL AID SOUGHT.
Strikes in Athens.
ATHENS, Dec 31.-The Vice
Premier (M Emmanuel Tsouderos)
and the Supply Minister (M
George Kartalis) left by air for
London on Saturday to ask for
British assistance in restoring
Greek economy.
Clerks in the telegraph office at
Athens began a 24-hour strike on
Saturday as a protest against the
high cost of living. The strike occur-
red just as Government action had
averted another in Athens and
Piraeus by offering State employees
a bonus equal to a month's pay, and
further increases after the financial
talks in London by the Vice-Premier
and the Supply Minister.
A strike of civil servants ended at
1 pm on Saturday. It was only par-
tially effective, the percentages of
strikers varying in different Minis-
tries. Other strikes are threatening.
