Australia for making a formal
move for better understanding
etween the two countries.
He cited the reversal of the
decision to exclude Sgt. Gam
boa from Australia as an ex
ample of 'pouring oil on trou
bled waters.'
Relations between Australia
and the Philippines were better
than ever, he said.
The two countries needed
closer relations because they
were neighbors geographically
and both had the same ideals
symbolised by their war records.
'Australians are wonderful
people and made many contri
butions to victory for. lasting
peace,' he said.
Gen. Romulo said that the
visit by the Australian Minis
ter for External Affairs (Mr.
Spender) to the Philippines
should be followed by sending
Philippine leaders to Australia.
Later there should' be an ex
change of students and news
papermen.
Gen. Romulo passed through
San Francisco from Lake Suc
cess on his way to Baguio for a
special conference called by
President Romulo of the Philip
lines.
Consular representatives here
said that his visit was con
nected with the formation of
an Asiatic anti-Communist
pact.
