AN 'OUTRAGEOUS"
SENTENCE.
MR. BENT AND JUDGE EAGLESON.
Melbourne, December 17.
Mr. Bent, referring to Judge Eagleson's
sentence of twelve months on James Walsh,
late railway accountant, said such a light
sentence was outrageous. The judge treated
him very tenderly. At first he was
inclined to let him walk out of the dock,
and then after giving him a year hoped that
he would be kept in a divisional part of the
prison. While he was at it he wondered
the judge did not suggest that a
palace be put up for him.
