Police Say Policeman
Drove Dangerously
A policeman who 'was alleged to havf overturned
his car and injured a passenger near Bullsbrook on
October 4 was charged in the Midland Traffic Court
yesterday with dangerous driving.
He is Constable Norman
Turkich, of Great Eastern
highway, Rivervale.
He denied having driven dan
gerously at the 23-mile peg in
Great Eastern-highway, near
Bullsbrook.
George Thomas Stratton, lead
ing aircraftman, of Pearce, said
that he had been driving his car
towards Pearce about 6.45 p.m.
when he had seen Turkich's car
lurch around a bend in the road
about half a mile away.
The car had left the road on
the incorrect side and rolled
over two or three times before
coming to rest on its.side a few
feet in front of his car, which
had then been stationary.
Turkich had clambered out of
a broken windshield.
Sgt. W. Plunkett said that he
had been parked on the roadside
north of Pearce when he had
seen Turkich's car pass by at 70
m.p.h.
Later be had found the car
overturned about three miles
south of Pearce.
Sgt.L Gamble said that the
car had travelled about 320ft.
from where it left the road to
where it came to rest, but brake
marks were not visible.
The manf who was injured in
the crash-Patrick John Dirk,
of Kalamunda-said that Tur
kich had given him a "lift" from
Bullsbrook.
They had been travelling about
40 m.p.h. when the car crashed,
he said.
Mr. A. L. F. Taylor, R.M., ad
journed the case sine die.
Sat. R. W. Grey prosecuted and
Mr. R. Holmes appeared for Tur
kic.
