ON BOND
Sydney. - A young mother had
told him that after cutting her
own and her crippled baby'
daughter's throat and placing the
child near gas jets, she had 'sud-
denly- come to her senses, a »de-
tective said in the Central Criminal
Court. -
Detecti.ve-Sgt. John Fisher, ~ of
Katoomba, gave this evidence when
Mi'Sr Dorothy May - Johnson, "31,-of
Leura.' Blue "Mts. "pleaded guilty
to having wounded the baby with
intent to d0 grievous bodily harm,
and', with having attempted tc
commit suicidé. . ... . ;
: Fisher said . that Mrs. .Johnson
had .-'been worried because -the!
baby, two months old at the time
of the happening, had been born
I with serious deformities to the
1 thighs¿ rlegs, and hands. -
I When the woman "realised' what'
she had done sne turned off the
I gas arid informed neighbors. The
I baby had since recovered. . :
Dr. Horace ?.- Spearman, a ^psy-
chiatrist, said that the mother
had become "so distressed when she
began thinking . about how the
baby ..would have to be always
pushed! around in a wheel - chair,
that she ' had felt Ijfe was not
worth while.
