Town Board Blasts
Hoy's Shelter Plan
Members of the Town Management Board have strongly
condemned a design submitted by the Director of Native
Affairs (Mr. F. H. Moy) for bus shelters proposed to be erec-
ted for natives. They expressed dissatisfaction with both the
rough plan submitted by Mr. Moy and with the type of
shelter it was proposed to erect. "Bus shelters," it. was said,
"should beautify the town, not mar its appearance."
The plan submitted by Mr.
Moy provided for shelters con-
structed of corrugated iron on
a wooden framework on sites
in the town area. The Director
asked for the Board's appro-
val for their erection.
Mr. Coop pointed out that
some time ago the previous
Town Management Board had
been informed that its recom-
mendation that concrete bus
shelters should be erected had
been approved by NT Adminis-
tration and a requisition for
the work issued. However no
action appeared to have been
taken.
Mr. Coop added that he felt «
that the two types of shelters
should he combined with a
concrete structure in front
and timber behind, the shel-
ters to be divided by a com-
mon wall. *
After considerable, ;: discus-
sion, the Board decl&ed that
the whole scheme should be
reconsidered when . a report
had been received on what had
happened to the original
scheme for the provision of
several bus shelters. Consider-
ation was to be given to the
combination of the two
schemes. _
