KAPUNDA.
February 23. The corporations and district
councils around here are now carrying
out the annual work of providing metal
for the main roads under their inspection
It is expected that the spreading of the
metal will be done a little earlier than
usual. All the bodies complain that they
have not sufficient money for the maintenance
Owing to the plentiful harvest and
the high price offering for wheat, and the
cartage of fertilisers in preparation for the
coming seeding, there is considerably more
than the ordinary traffic on the roads, and
they are showing the effects of wear and
tear. The road to Anlaby £3 greatly in
need of repair. Mr. Dutton some time ago
offered £100 for the purpose if the Government or
the Kapunda District Council
would spend an equal sum. The Government
have been appealed to in vain, and
the district council have not the funds, re-
cently- Mr. Dutton was asked by the council
if he would be willing to spend his club
on the road, but he declined until the im-
mer conditions were complied with The
death is announced of a pioneer of the district,
Mrs. Hawkswell, of Allendale, near
Kapunda. Mr. S Hawkswell died several
years ago.
