Uranium Is
Discovered
By Aircraft
DARWIN, Sun.—A DC3 plane
belonging to the Common-
wealth Bureau of Mineral Re-
sources made more than 100
separate uranium discoveries in
a recent aerial survey.
The survey extended from Dar-
win to the Adelaide River, 72
miles south of Darwin, and also
around the Edith River uranium
field, 158 miles south of Darwin.
The finds are on both sides of
the Darwin-Alice Springs high-
way and reach to within a few
miles of Darwin.
The discoveries are extremely
encouraging from the air, and
geologists believe that some of
them may prove equal to, if not
better than those at Rum Jungle.
It has been decided that a spe-
cially fitted-out aircraft will
continue the survey next year,
assisted by an R.A.A.F. helicop-
ter.
Small groups of geologists have
been working steadily in the past
few weeks on the aerial disco-
veries and they have had to hack
their way through scrub to get
to some of them.
They have concentrated on a
find 41 miles from Darwin in
the Manton Dam area, where a
geological survey is now being
conducted.
