Migrants Get
New Hostel
The recently completed mi-
grant hostel at Graylands will
receive its first tenants when
212 British migrants, nomin-
ated and assisted by the Com-
monwealth Government, arrive
on the liner Otranto from Eng-
land today.
The hostel, operated by Com-
monwealth Hostels Ltd., a new
company formed to adminis-
trate these hostels, took about
18 months to complete and is
the first of its type in Western
Australia although there are
many throughout the Com-
monwealth.
There are 122 Nissen huts
converted into 60 three-bed-
room flats, and 62 two-bed-
room flats. Meals are served in
a modern communal kitchen
run on the cafeterial system.
For the migrants, the men of
whom are all skilled tradesmen,
there are also recreation and
schooling facilities and a kind-
ergarten.
The hostel is built to accom-
modate 500. The second and
final group of migrants for the
hostel, will arrive on July 12.
