Growing Air
Power Of
Korean Reds
MELBOURNE. Tues.-Com
munist China's build-up of air
power from Russian sources
was seriously threatening
United Nations air control in
Korea, the Director of Re
cruiting (Lieut.-Gen. Sir Horace
Robertson) said today.
"All this build-up has been
going on during the peace
talks," Sir Horace said. "We
have been fully aware of the
enemy's growing air power for
some time.
"In the past three months the
MIGs have far outnumbered
our fighters.
"So far the enemy has. not
used his bombers because he
had not had airstrips far
enough south for his jet
fighters to be able to escort
them into South Korea.
"He has been building air
strips, however, and it is fairly
certain that now he would be
able to send escorted bombers
into some parts of South
Korea."
