SURVEY FOR
RAILWAY
AGREED TO
The Legislative Assembly
last night agreed that the
Government should proceed
early to have a survey made
and resume land in prepara
tion for the construction of
a railway south of the river.
The House debated an
amendment by the Minister
for Education (Mr. Watts) to
a motion by Mr. Sleeman
(Lab., Fremantle) that the
Government should proceed
with the railway.
Mr. Watts successfully mov
ed that the construction of
the railway was desirable but
that the House considered
that its construction should
take place only as soon as the
position of supplies and more
urgent works made it reason
ably practicable.
An addendum to the mo
tion by Mr. Read (Ind., Vic
toria Park) that the Govern
ment should proceed early to
have a survey made and the
land resumed was agreed to
on the voices.
