WEST AUSTRALIA S
PERTH. November 27. " The
Sub-Collector of Customs reports
that the total Customs revenue collected
during the month of October amounted to
£102,807, of which the State received
£62,982. Of the total the Federal Customs
from October 9 to 30 amounted to £39,824. -m ~
This morning at the City Court Mr. Roe,"
P.M., gave his reserved decision in the case
in which Herbert Bingeman, pharmaceuti-,
cal chemist, was charged with having page,
tised as a doctor. The case was that a man
named John William Thompson had sore
I eyes. He went to Bridgeman, who gave
him a lotion, harmless in itself, but Thomp-
son had an ulceration, which resulted in the
loss of an eye. The case. however, was
simply against the chemist for having practised
improperly. In giving his decision,
Mr. Roe said that had the defendant not
examined the eye, but simply taken Thompson's
word as to what was wrong with it,
and sold the bottle of lotion, the matter
would have been different, but the defendant
had examined the eye and prescribed
therefor. He found that the defendant
did practise medicine within the meaning of
the Medical Act of 1894, and he fined him
£5 and costs. Notice of appeal was given.
