Duisburg Again
Attacked

LONDON, July 26.
A strong force of RAF bombers
was out over Germany again last
night, when Dulsburg, the largest
inland European port, was the
main objective. This is the third
hammering Duisburg has had in a
week.
It is at the junction of the Rhine
and the Ruhr rivers and an im
portant centre for Hitler's war
supplies.
The Air Ministry reports that
besides Duisburg, aerodromes in
the Low Countries were bombed.
Single planes which dropped bombs
on the Ruhr in daylight this morn
ing reported that fires were still
burning in the dock and industrial
area of Duisburg. British fighters
last night destroyed two enemy
bombers near their bases.
British fighters also attacked
railways ana other targets in the
occupied territory, and also
ping off the French coast. Four
teen bombers and one fighter are
missing.
Bombers in the past week con
tinued to lay mines in enemy wat
ers. Two of our planes are miss

Planes of the Bomber Command

Heavy Raid In England
Raiders in the early hours of this
morning bombed a north-east town
in England. Many shops were
damaged and casualties were
caused.
The raid was the heaviest and
sharpest the town has yet experi
enced. High explosive and oil
bombs and hundreds of incendiary
bombs were showered, causing con
siderable damage to business and
cottage property.
Many fires broke out in con
gested business quarters, destroy
ing shops and bouses. It is feared
that an hotel manager and his staff
were trapped in the cellars of a
demolished hotel.
All ARP services were mobilised.
The dead included a 17-year-old
warden, who was patrolling when
a bomb fell a few yards away. A
sailor or leave took his wife and
three young children to a street
shelter. He was returning to his
home for more clothes, when a
bomb mortally injured him. He
said, "I have been through a lot,
but have seen nothing like this."
Two night raiders were destroyed
when attacking Britain last night.

off the south coast yesterday morn-

An Air Ministry communique
states:—"Boston bombers yester
day attacked a chemical works at
Sluiskil in Tffii"^"^, and other
bombers flying singly bombed tar
gets at Mannheim and Frankfurt,
in' Germany fighters on offen
sive patrols over Belgium destroyed
a railway locomotive. Four of our
fighters are missing."
Moscow radio names Knenigs
berg as the objective in East Prus
sia which was bombed by Russian
planes on Friday night. It added
that, despite unfavorable weaiber,
12 fires were started and 56 ex
plosions were observed.
The Germans are reported to have forced crossings of the Don at Tsymlyanskaya, north-east of Rostov. The Russians admit that the enemy has broken into the outskirts of Rostov, but there is no confirmation of a Nazi claim to have taken Novocherkask. Help
