A FEARFUL DEATH.
Last week at South Yarra (Melbourne)
a man grasped a "live" electric light wire,
and was instantly killed. On Wednesday
afternoon John Fellows, a foreman bricklayer,
46 years of age, was killed in a similar
manner. Fellows was employed with
his brother at Collingwood, a Melbourne
suburb, in a transformer pit, through
which a number of underground wires run.
He had been working on his knees, and
with the idea of helping himself up he put
his hand against the wall, and called out
"Oh, oh!" His brother ran to see what
was the matter, and saw Fellows with his
hand on the wall. The unfortunate man fell
back into his brother's arms, apparently
dead. Dr. Heffernan was passing at the
time, and his services were immediately
sought, but he pronounced life extinct, till
the flesh had been burnt off the hand, leaving
the bones exposed. Constable Mailer
zone removed the body to the City Morgue,
where an inquest was held. Deceased resided
with his wife and family in South
Richmond.
