LORD HAWKE'S CRICKET TEAM.
At a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket
Council in Auckland on Tuesday a letter
was read from Lord Hawke, saying he had
found great difficulty in getting a purely
amateur team, especially in regard to
bowlers, he suggested that he should be
authorised to include two professionals at
£100 each besides expenses. Lord Hawke
said he proposed there should be 13 players
in the team. He expected to get C. J.
Burnup (Kent), T. L. Taylor (Yorkshire),
K. F. Druce (Surrey), A. M. Miller (Wills),
J. R. Head, and R. R. Bromley-Davenport
Middlesex). Referring to the proposal
from Major Wardill for a visit of an Australian
team to New Zealand, Lord Hawke
said he hoped it would not be arranged,
because with such difficulties to meet his team
might fall through. The council i
solved that if Lord Hawke could not get a j
purely amateur team he should be authorised
to engage two professionals on the
