Australia's Prospects As
"Great Film Centre"

LONDON, December 20.
After two years film production
in Australia Mr. Harry Watt, who
directed the British picture "Over-
landers." says that the finest types
of film can be made in Australia.
Addressing a London welcome
home luncheon today. Mr. Watt
was surprisingly frank about the
weakness of the "Overlanders." and
expressed a poor opinion of the
general standard of Australian ac
tors
He paid a high tribute to the
efforts of the .small cast under ap
pallinp technical difficulties, and
described the films principal.
Chips Raflerty. as a "great find:
an Australian Oary Cooper with
the ease and charm that fan be
found in the Australian outbnek '
He said that there was no pool
of Australian actors. Most actors
were employed in radio and earned
|good monry. but they were "rather |
poor actors, who did not have to
I worry about appearance." i

trouble with past Australian films
was that they endeavored to imi
