SPRING ART
SHOW
Opening Today By
Governor
By R. E. FULLER
The spring exhibition of the
Royal SA Society of Arts, which
will be opened at the society's gal-
lery this afternoon by His Excel-
lency the Governor (Sir WiUoughby
Norrie) is reminiscent of the
Federal exhibitions inaugurated by
Hie society some 49 years ago, as
five States are represented, but
the work on the whole from the
eastern States is smaller and less
important, and is certainly not as
representative. However, the ex
hibition contains many Interesting
types and studies. There are many
more exhibits than usual, and al
though the hanging committee has
arranged them to the best advan
tage, the show seems a little
crowded, and a few pictures are
"sky-hlghed" and their story
points not. visible.
Landscapes, seascapes asc still Ule, aa
usual, comprise the largest section, and
same excellent work Is shown. "Ca
mellias," red and white, well grouped,
with the real velvety finish, oy Isabel
Haynes. Is one of the best she has ever
shown. A bowl of "Bilabores" by May
Grigg, is very colorlul and realistic; and
Gertrude Simms is a success with her
"Chrysanthemums.** Nora Hutcbinson

well-massed "Winter Blooms." while
Gwen Bamnger evinces her old attrac
tion In her portrayal ol white blossoms
in several pictures. "Almond Blossom**

and some good work in shown. Max
