Adelaide. August 28th, 1847.
Gentlemen,-r-I have the honour to acknowledge
the receipt of your letter of this date, informing me that the
Committee of the ' Soitth Australian British Distitu
tuyn Rktttj*. Pitvn' arndpeirnns of remitting, throuzh the
JLocu Government, a sum of £1000 to the '.London Com
mittee of the British Association for the relief of Irish and
Scottish distress;'— and, having laid the same before the
Lieutenant-Governor, I am directed to intimate to you,, in
reply, .that his Exceliency will have great pleasure in meet
ing the wishes of the Committee by giving immediate in
structions to the Colonial Treasurer to receive that sum
when tendered to him, and to issue, in return for the same,
to Marshall MacDermott, Esq., the Treasurer to your fund,
a certificate in triplicate of such receipts ; upon presentation
of which certificate to the Lords Commissioners of her Ma
jesty's Treasury in London, their Lordships will direct pay
ment of a similar amount to the Committee of the above
named British Association in that city. -
His Excellency will advise the Secretary of State of this
trfangeraent by the mail which is now about to be closed for
England. -
