'Week"
(June 21st~27th}
"I expect to pass through this viorld but
?nce. Any good, therefore, I can do, or any
kindness that I can shoiv to any frllovi
creature — let me do it novi — for I shall not
pass this <ic?j' again."
TEXT Sunday, June 21st, will usher in
? Y " KINDNESS WEEK "-^ week which has
been enthusiastically adopted by citizens at
the suggestion of His Excellency the Governor
(Sir Winston Dugan), as a vital part of our
Centenary Celebrations.
All sections of the community are determined that
"KINDNESS WEEK" will mean more than a
mere pleasant sentiment, that it will be a week of
practical well-doing to those who are less fortunate
than themselves. It is a good thing to pause thus
from the absorbing business of life, and to look
around for those to whom a little practical kindness
means so much at the moment. His Excellency's
thoughtful and opportune suggestion should remind
everybody that "getting money is not all a man's
business .... to cultivate kindness is a valuable part
of the business of life."
As a South Australian Institution, John Martuvs
wish to offer, in some small way, a practical tribute
of kindness to next week's worthy endeavours.
We feel that the best and most advantageous way
for all concerned is for us to help you materially to
help others. So we publish below, after consultation
with the secretary or matron of several recognised
charitable organisations, lists of the articles most
needed by the inmates of these institutions.
Those who desire to donate something, for example,
a pair, of blankets, to one of these or any other
charities, will be able to make their purchase at
10% off the usual marked price during the week.
John Martin's will deliver your purchase to the
proper authority at each institution without any
charge. Also, our delivery cars will collect from
your home and deliver any goods you may wish to
send to an Institution.
We hope, in this way, to facilitate the delivery of
multitudes of gifts, and to aid the community in
some measure in making "KINDNESS WEEK"
the unforgettable and joyous week in the lives of
thousands of South Australians it so richly deserves
to be.
{The following list.*, supplied by several
Charitable Organisations, are typical
examples of what is most needed by the
inmates of these and the many other
similar Institutions) :—
